Ensuite Bath - Full Reveal (Well 97.5% Reveal)

As with a lot of our other bathrooms, we started with something livable, but not even close to pleasant on the eyes.

A big, short cabinet ran along the sink wall.  It was a double sink set-up.  So there was that.

The tile was actually upgraded by the previous owners.  One would assume it was originally the same blue and white lino that was in the laundry and hall bathroom.

Maybe it was on sale?  to me if you were putting in the effort to replace the floor you might have picked something prettier?  Just me.

So we knew when we moved in, we wanted to eventually replace everything.

But it just wasn't in the budget at first.

So we worked on making it prettier for the interim.
Cue my favorite 'fix' in this house - paint the cabinet grey.  Hey if it works right?

And it does look better doesn't it?

Not ideal by any stretch of the imagination - but it bought us a year to save up some money.

Then we found the mold.

And it took us about 5 mins to decide to do this.

We hadn't completely saved the budget we wanted.  But it was enough.

Demo took 2 days.  I managed to convince Craig we could do it ourselves.

They had regular drywall behind the tiles.  So much about the building code in 1999 confuses me.  I think I could have told you in 1999 at 14 that drywall behind tile in a shower might possibly be a bad idea.

We were pretty insistent about cement board.  Our tiling crew agreed wholeheartedly.  (Atlanta Floors ltd. - they are inexpensive and amazing!)

ZOMG it's so pretty!  Grey marble in a 12 X 24 long tile.  Procured very inexpensively from Floor and Decor Outlet.

We paired the marble with a blue grey slate mix - hex tile for the win.

Replaced the cabinets too of course.  We grabbed this matched set from Home Decorator's Collection for $299 each.  It involved a few visits from our plumber, but in the end they are worth it.

And although we don't actually use the tub.  The surround was re-tiled in a slate that matches the hex tile in the bottom of the shower.

Next was the lights.  Again, junction box disappearing act and hate on the 1999 building code.

Once we figured out the junction boxes, these were actually kind of easy.

We do still have some stuff to finish in here.  But we love leaving projects 97.5% finished.

Here is our list:
- repaint trim and baseboards
- add molding to top of wainscotting
- add frame around mirror
- second skim coat of drywall mud
- paint touch-ups

That list has sat like that for like a year.  How bad are we?
